Just yesterday my dog Opie died of illness and old age. I was in mild shock when my dad told me and my sister to say "goodbye" to Opie. He was lying in the grass, barking continuosly with his eyes wide. And he couldn't get up. I tried not cry, trying not to worry over him...just because he was an animal. But thinking that only put me to shame, because he's family. That night, I cried.

Today, I tried not to talk to anyone in school, but my friends know me well enough to spot even the tiniest change in my general nature. Fourth period in my Drawing class, I started crying again and after class my teacher asked me what was wrong, as with all other people who asked, and the quote was always "My dog died yesterday."

I keep looking out into the backyard, kinda hard to believe that he's gone, but I know his time would come soon. I actually glad he's gone so he wouldn't feel any pain anymore. Our other dog, a daschund named Cocoa was howling at the twilight. Whether it was the siren of the police cars or Opie's absence is not known, but I it was the second.

My parents have had him not long before they had me, so it's pretty big loss. Mom always said that it was me who picked Opie, though I wasn't born yet. I'll be drawing a tribute for Opie and will be posting it by Friday, along with some art trades and gift art for other people if I can.

RIP Opie, hope you have nice afterlife. Grow your wings and chase 'em flying rabbits!

17 years old in humans years, 100 years old in medium-sized dog years.

P.S.- I still wonder why he was named "Opie". He came with the name when my parents got him from the shelter...
